How to Conceal Carry

how-to-conceal-carry

This morning you found a great parking spot downtown and only had to walk through a few alleys. After getting off work late, it’s already dark and as you’re walking to your car a stranger asking for money approaches you. In a hurry, you apologize and shuffle passed. Next, you hear the footsteps of the man following you, turn around and he’s now demanding money with a knife. Luckily, you have your carry permit and have a concealed handgun under your blazer.

Despite recent changes to Tennessee gun laws, there’s still a need to get a permit and carry concealed. Before obtaining your Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit, you’ll have to complete a handgun safety course. By training with a professional you’ll learn how to pick, handle and shoot a handgun effectively. Classes will teach you how to spot potentially bad situations, remain calm and confidently take action, if necessary.

In order to decide what to carry as your concealed weapon of choice, it’s important to know where you want to keep it. If you plan on wearing a hip or shoulder holster, semiautomatic pistols are a popular, sleek option. If you plan on keeping your firearm in a bag or purse, a revolver is a good choice. Revolvers are less likely to malfunction and make it easy to fire from within the bag. If you’re in a bad situation, you can reach into your bag, pull back the hammer, point and pull the trigger. Of course, that’s if you know that you have to fire.

There are a number of choices and you should choose a holster that securely holds your gun while keeping it concealed. Inside the waistband, or IWB and hip holsters seem to be the most favored. Shoulder holsters require that you wear a jacket over them and your pant leg can conceal ankle holsters. There are other forms of holsters, such as bellyband and pocket holsters, as well as numerous options for women. These include undergarments with pouches designed for firearms, which securely hold your firearm close to your body for easy concealment under clothes. There are also thigh or bra holsters, purses, briefcases and planners designed specifically for concealed carry.
